Ballybunion Cashen
South West Ireland
Robert Trent Jones designed the Cashen Course and he considered it to be one of his masterpieces. The views are more dramatic, the dunes bigger, the greens more undulating, and the valleys deeper at the Cashen Course than the Ballybunion Old Course. Many golfers will report that the long carries make this course more of a golfing challenge than its more well-known ‘big sister’, the Old Course. Opened for play in 1982, the Cashen Course is located along the sweeping, undisturbed Atlantic shoreline.

Tralee Golf Club
South West Ireland
A year after it was founded in 1896, Tralee Golf Club built its first 9-hole layout. It moved twice over the years (building new 9-holers each time), then settled into its present site on the shores of Barrow Bay in 1980. Arnold Palmer was then hired to design a new 18-hole course — his first in Europe. The magnificent 18-hole links is set in spectacular scenery on the Barrow peninsula, surrounded on three sides by the sea. It is a challenging course, with the first nine being relatively flat holes and set on a cliff top; the second nine, by contrast, are built on dunes and Palmer famously quipped ‘I designed the first nine, but surely God designed the back nine’. This tough course is well-worth the drive and is one of the top links courses in Ireland.
