Guaranteed tee times for the Old Course at St. Andrews are always in high demand. Located on this page you will find a list of travel dates (beginning the week of) that can be used for planning purposes in an attempt to play the Old Course via the daily ballot or guaranteed advance starting times when you request a package of four or more nights for two or more golfers through The Golf Travel Group. It is very important to note that guaranteed starting times are based on a first come first serve basis and become limited very quickly!
Please note that The Golf Travel Group does have access to Old Course starting times throughout the travel season. When comparing similar tour quotes it is important to make sure that you are comparing a tour that is based on advance guaranteed times versus a tour that is based on the daily ballot (we are happy to quote both options based on available weeks). Rest assured, the value, service & travel experience you will receive while in St. Andrews will be second to none!

All pre-booked Old Course tee times are accompanied by a round on one of the other St Andrews Links Courses, typically either the New Course, Jubilee Course or Castle Course.
There are strict handicap restrictions for golfers wishing to play the Old Course. The handicap limits are 24 for men and 36 for ladies. All golfers must provide a proof of handicap in the form of a handicap card or certificate at the time of play. Also, there are no pre-bookable tee times for Saturdays and the Old Course is closed on Sundays.
For golfers who have not managed to secure an Old Course tee time in advance, there is still an option to apply for one via the Daily Ballot system (sometimes referred to as the “lottery”). The St Andrews Old Course Ballot is drawn two days ahead of play with the exception of Friday as there is no play on the Old Course on Sundays. For example, if you wish to enter the ballot for a tee time on Friday, you would apply on the Wednesday. To enter the ballot, golfer’s names, home golf clubs and handicaps are required. The deadline for entering the ballot is 2pm and the results are typically available by 4pm. Our local representatives will assist with the above process for all of our golfers who have their golf tour booked with us. Our travelers will be advised if they have been successful in the Old Course Ballot and if not, arrange alternative golf for them. Please note that the Daily Ballot is only applicable for groups of 2 or more.
Please note that the Old Course at St. Andrews offers a Single Golfers Policy. Single golfers are allowed to sign in with the starter on the day play with the hopes of getting paired up with another group that has an available single spot. Play is not guaranteed but it provides an opportunity for single golfers. Please note that we are from time to time able to pair up a single golfer in advance if we happen to have a group that has a single slot open on the required date.
